Novell to Windows Migration
Initial Customer Environment:
Four (4) Novell® & Windows® servers & 20+ Windows PCs built in-house by
former IT manager. No centralized management console for user
authentication & network resource share security. Some PCs on Windows®
XP Pro, some on Media Center, various pirated copies of software
installed, no standard Anti Virus solution, no automated server backup
in place.
Foreseen problem:
Previous IT manager left no documentation of architecture, client needed
more secure network, no disaster recovery, shared user logins, virus
outbreaks. Email has been hosted offsite, resulting in very inefficient
and costly communication.
Resolution:
Implemented Windows® Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange, moved
company email in-house, legalized all Windows® installations, migrated
all server applications from Novell® to Windows® servers, consolidated 4
generic servers into 2 Dell servers, implemented Symantec AntiVirus
Corporate Edition, created disaster recovery solution utilizing Symantec
BackupExec.
Results:
Client has 2 new Dell servers under warranty, all users have separate
logins & email addresses, centralized user/shared resource management,
all software has been legalized, all systems protected by standardized
AntiVirus solution, disaster recovery solution protects from
data/revenue loss. |
