Network Upgrade
Initial Customer Environment:
Property Management company with an aging Dell Power Edge server running
Windows 2000 Server. Network consisted of Windows 2000/XP workstations,
Watchguard Firewall and Dell switch. Email was being hosted by third
party hosting service.
Foreseen Problem:
Customer needed a new server to replace the current one which was
beginning to show signs of imminent hardware failure. Their software
vendor was also going to be releasing a new version of their management
software which required more
powerful hardware. Client also needed a better way to communicate both
internally and externally as well as share multiple calendars and
contact lists. Client was also experiencing problems with frequent email
downtime due to email host.
Resolution:
ISG installed and configured a new Dell Power Edge server running
Windows Small Business Server 2003. We migrated all domain information
and applications from the old server to the new one. Additionally,
Microsoft Exchange was configured to host their email, enabling the
client to realize a monthly cost savings from their
current hosting solution. This solution also enabled the use of public
folders for storing and sharing company wide contact and calendar
information. Symantec Premium Anti-Spam software was used to protect
from email spam and viruses. Symantec Anti-Virus was also used to
protect the network from viruses.
Results:
The client now has a reliable, secure and efficient network that
additionally enables improved communication and sharing of
information. The faster hardware also
enables their management software to run much faster resulting in less
user
frustration as well as increased user productivity. Client has also
realized a
substantial monthly cost savings by hosting their own email. |
