Multiple Location Medical Practice VPN
Initial Customer Environment:
Ophthalmology Practice with one main location and one remote office
connected via a dedicated T1 circuit.
Foreseen Problem:
As this practice continued to grow from the initial two locations to a
total of six, the need for cost efficient data communications between
the offices become paramount. In addition to the Practice Management
application, the practice was beginning the implementation of EMR. This
practice also relies heavily on email communications between offices.
Resolution:
ISG proposed and implemented a solution that consisted of multiple VPNs
(Virtual Private Networks) connecting all of the practice locations
using the offices’ existing broadband internet connections as the
backbone for the connectivity, drastically minimizing
telecommunications charges. This solution additionally allowed for the
practice to meet HIPAA requirements with the secure connections the VPNs
created. All six of the practice’s servers are located in the main
office, storing all information from emails to EMRs to patient account
information. This data is completely and instantly accessible from
any practice location. Additionally, the doctors have the ability to
view information while in remote locations, such as their homes or area
hospitals, utilizing their laptops with wireless network cards and
secure connections to the main office.
Results:
The client now has a reliable, secure and efficient multi-location
network that allows patients to visit any location and have their
information instantly accessible. The practice realized a substantial
monthly cost savings by eliminating the T1 connections and
relying solely on the Virtual Private Networks ISG implemented.
Furthermore, it allows for instant email communications with employees
regardless of their location, maximizing productivity and efficiency.
